THE SUN NEVER SAYS
Even after all this time,
The sun never says to the Earth,
“You owe me.”

FROM THE BELOVED ATTRACTS THE LOVER
We race hotly after the lover,
But when the love comes,
We are absent.
Your’re a lover of God,
But He such that when He comes,
There isn’t a drop of you remaining,
For with His look, a hundred like you will wither away.
You’re like a shadow in love with the sun;
When the intensity of light appears, you vanish,
Chasing yourself away…

A PEASANT BEFORE A KING
If I did not understand
The glory and suffering of the human heart,
I would not speak before its
Holiness.
Like a peasant called before a great king
When all of His court is assembled,
That is how I stand before
Every woman and man.
How is it God seeks our counsel
Whenever a voice or face asks of us?
What a sweet divine game
He plays.

When they call me into
Their court,
